Security Essentials

I had a problem with Security Essentials (SE) prior to Tax-Aide converting to SE.
As the user of SE, I could not get Windows update or SE updates after running SE for a while. I got misleading messages for Windows (site problem) and SE (connection failure). The below are two plans Microsoft sent me and may be of use to you.
BTW - I solved my problem by re-configuring Virtual Memory.

THIS IS ONE PLAN / EMAIL.
Action Plan:

Step 1:

1. Download the MSE installer for your Operating System from the Home Page: http://microsoft.com/security_essentials
2. Save the file to your Desktop. This will ensure that you can find it easily after the download is done.
3. To open Command Prompt console:
FOR XP: Click Start -> RUN -> type CMD in the Run Window and then hit enter.
4. In the Command Prompt console type: CD %USERPROFILE%\Desktop <-hit ENTER
5. Type: msse <-then hit the TAB button.
6. Depending on your Operating System, after hitting tab it should either appear as any of the three below:
mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-xp.exe
mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7
mssefullinstall-amd64fre-en-us-vista-win7.exe
7. Now put a space in between the whole line and put /U as seen below:
mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-xp.exe /U
mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7 /U
mssefullinstall-amd64fre-en-us-vista-win7.exe /U
8. Hit ENTER and this should uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials.
9. After uninstall you can now attempt installation. It would be best that you restart your system first after uninstall.

*Do not forget the space between CD and the % sign.

If the above steps didn't help to remove the Microsoft Security Essentials from the computer, please follow the below steps.

Step 2:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk

1. Click Start > All programs > Accessories > Run
2. Type the following text in Run window and click ok
3. Regedit
4. You will get Registry Editor Window.
5. In left pane, right click on "Computer" OR "My Computer" and select "Export"
6. Type the file name as "backup.reg" and save it on your C:\ drive.

Please follow the below steps to delete the Microsoft Security Essentials entries under registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software>Microsoft>Windows > Current version> Uninstall > Microsoft Security Essentials --- Right click on Microsoft Security Essentials and delete the key

Close the Registry Editor window.
Restart the computer.

Step 3:

1. Go to the below download link:
